In a strict move to curb misuse of authority and protect public safety, the state transport authorities in Odisha have announced that no vehicle will be allowed to display police logos or write “OHRC” (Odisha Human Rights Commission) on their number plates.
The decision comes after serious complaints were lodged with the Odisha Human Rights Commission, highlighting that several individuals and some NGO members were illegally using police-like logos and OHRC labels on their vehicles. These unauthorized markings were reportedly being used to intimidate common citizens and, in some cases, exploit them.
Taking the matter seriously, the state transport department has declared such practices illegal. Authorities have warned that any vehicle found displaying police insignia or misleading identification like “OHRC” will face strict legal action, including seizure of the vehicle.
Officials emphasized that only authorized government vehicles are permitted to use official logos, and misuse by private individuals is a punishable offense. The move aims to prevent impersonation, ensure transparency, and safeguard citizens from harassment.
The government has also urged the public to report any such misuse to the concerned authorities so that prompt action can be taken. This step is seen as part of a broader effort to maintain law and order and uphold the integrity of official institutions.
