The restrictions were initially introduced as a precautionary measure amid uncertainties in global energy markets triggered by the conflict in the Middle East. Concerns over international crude oil and LPG supply chains had prompted authorities to regulate commercial LPG distribution to ensure uninterrupted availability of domestic cooking gas for households across the country. With the global situation showing signs of stabilization and India's energy supply chain remaining secure, the Central Government has now decided to withdraw the restrictions on the supply of Non-Domestic Packed LPG cylinders. Additionally, the cap on bulk LPG supply has been eased by 50 percent, allowing commercial and industrial consumers to access a greater quantity of LPG than was permitted during the restriction period. This move is expected to benefit a wide range of sectors, including hospitality, food processing, manufacturing, healthcare institutions, educational establishments, and small businesses. Industry stakeholders believe the decision will help reduce operational challenges and improve business continuity, particularly for enterprises that rely on LPG as a primary fuel source. The government has also indicated that the diversion of C3/C4 streams to the LPG pool will be reduced. Enhanced allocation of these streams for non-LPG applications will be implemented while ensuring that domestic LPG availability remains unaffected and indigenous LPG production remains stable. However, the government's policy push toward expanding Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure and increasing PNG connections will continue without any change. Authorities maintain that PNG remains a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable long-term energy solution for urban and industrial consumers. The latest decision reflects the government's commitment to balancing energy security, domestic consumer interests, and the needs of commercial and industrial sectors. Businesses across the country are expected to welcome the move as it restores greater flexibility in fuel procurement and supports economic activity.
